One of the most common questions I get is
“When should I book my maternity photos?”
And the truth is… most people wait a little longer than they meant to.
Not because they don’t care.
Just because life is full, and it doesn’t always feel urgent yet.
The Sweet Spot
Most maternity sessions are photographed somewhere between 28–34 weeks.
By then, your body has changed in a way that really shows up in photos.
Your belly is round and defined, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move, sit, and actually enjoy the experience.
It’s that in-between point where everything feels real… but not rushed.
Why Waiting Too Long Can Be Hard
It’s easy to think, “I’ll book it later.”
But later can start to feel a little different.
You might feel more tired.
More uncomfortable.
Less like getting in front of a camera.
And sometimes, babies just have their own plans.
When You Should Actually Reach Out
I always recommend reaching out sometime in your second trimester.
Not because we need to photograph it that early,
but so we have time to plan everything in a way that feels calm and intentional.
Wardrobe, timing, whether you want studio or outdoor…
all of that comes together better when it’s not rushed.
If You’re Already Further Along
You’re not too late.
I photograph sessions all the time later in pregnancy, and they’re just as meaningful.
We just keep things a little more relaxed and simple,
and focus on what feels good for you.
A Different Way to Think About It
There isn’t a “perfect week.”
There’s just the moment where you decide
this is something I don’t want to miss.
And that’s really what matters.
If You’ve Been Thinking About It
This is your sign to at least start the conversation.
No pressure. No rush.
Just a chance to plan something that feels like you.
